November 19th will see Australian punk rock mini-festival GINGERFEST return for it’s third year.
This year, organisers have decided to shift the things down the highway a little and move things to our nation’s capital. Canberra’s TRANSIT BAR will play host, with another impressive curated Australian line-up to make this a night to remember.
As well as being a celebration of inclusive punk rock culture, GINGERFEST is a festival born to celebrate the life of Nicky Sofer-Schreiber (aka 'The Ginger Ninja'), who was tragically murdered in his own home in Canberra in late 2013. One of punk rock’s most dedicated fans, The Ginger Ninja was much loved throughout the punk scene in Australia and abroad. Gingerfest 2016 coincides with Nicky's 30th birthday, so like all good 30th bashes - this one is gonna get wild!
After recently returning from a huge European tour, Melbourne skate punk geniuses CLOWNS will headline this year’s event, while trying to ruin your life with their hardcore punk craft. But before that, Adelaide’s amazing GRENADIERS will dish you out their unique intoxicating cocktail of tunes. Other acts on the evening include the return of Sydney’s BATFOOT and party-punk ska whizzes CHRIS DUKE AND THE ROYALS, who will be lighting up the stage again after some time away. Having travelled all the way from WA, Narrogin’s finest TOM & RUSSELL will be charming the crowd with their infectiously entertaining acoustic tunes and bushy eyebrows. You’ll also see the return of local punk rock troubadours LAMEXCUSE (back for one show after a big break!), THE VEE BEES and SKETCH METHOD are also set to entertain and warm your ears up with their sonic, punk rock haberdashery. Finally, for something a little different, organisers have added comedian NICK CODY to the lineup, who will be doing his best to make punters wee themselves with his hilariousness, witty banter and tremendous beard.
Tickets are $30 (plus booking fee) through Oztix, with all profits going towards the Ginger Ninja Foundation, established in 2014 in memory of Nicholas Sofer Schreiber (1986-2013).
Remember the Ginger Ninja.
